A livestock property at Gogango has sold at auction for $23.36 million. This is followed by two more livestock properties that have sold in Central Queensland in the last week for more than $1 million.

Lockdown 'hasn't tempered' demand for properties

A 12,611 acre livestock property at Gogango has sold at auction for $23.36 million to a couple from Clermont who said they “couldn’t resist”.

David and Sharon Conachan purchased Cedar Creek, which is located on Munns Road, at auction on October 1.

Mr Conachan is a bullock fattener and backgrounder and owns a 2500 acre property next to Cedar Creek as well as a beachfront home in Rosslyn.

He said he and his wife planned to relocate from their property in Clermont, Clydevale, to live in the region.

“We had already purchased the property next door and after a very trying season we were very pleased with how our bullocks went there, so when Cedar Creek came on the market we couldn’t resist,” he said

“It’s quality land with quality water in a really good position.

“It needs a little work but apart from that it’s ideal.”

He said the purchase gave them 14 freehold titles and more than 15,000 acres of land.

He said the purchase was not just for him and his wife, but also their three children, Bonnie, Joseph and William.

“Having 14 freehold blocks makes it very easy for succession planning,” he said.

“They all have the opportunity now to buy each other out.”

Nutrien Harcourts GDL rural property salesman Damien Freney said there were 19 registered bidders, five active bidders and more than 100 attendees at the auction, which was held at Quality Hotel Regent Rockhampton.

“The bidding was very fierce,” Mr Freney said.

“Bidding kicked off at $15 million and rapidly went through to the fall of the hammer.”

He said there were more than 100 inquiries on the property and about 53 inspections before it was sold.

The property boasts a quality mix of country and improved pastures that are well-watered by 15 dams, semi permanent holes along creeks, and bores.
