A “completely out of control” teenager who was last month banned from every Capricorn Coast licensed premises for a year has faced court again, this time where his contempt for road laws was revealed.
At his latest appearance in Yeppoon Magistrates Court on June 16, Mitchell Damien Nolan-Judd, 19, pleaded guilty to an unlicensed driving charge after he was caught behind the wheel while his licence was demerit point suspended.
This offence happened just two days after Nolan-Judd was dealt with in the same court for numerous offences including public nuisance, trespass, possessing dangerous drugs, and obstructing a police officer - and Acting Magistrate Ron Muirhead blasted him for being “completely out of control.”
On May 21, Nolan-Judd, an operator at JRT Yeppoon (civil construction company), would have still had Mr Muirhead’s words ringing in his head when police busted him driving at 2.30am along Farnborough Road in Yeppoon.
In court on June 16, Magistrate Cameron Press revealed why Nolan-Judd’s driver’s licence was demerit point suspended.
“One of the reasons that this problem has come up for you, is you haven’t been complying with traffic regulations,” Mr Press said.
“You know, there’s exceeding speed limits (offences) by more than 20kmh - several of them.
“Using a handheld mobile phone (while driving).
“You know, they’ve each incurred losses of four points, Sir.
“That’s why you’ve got yourself into this predicament, right.
“You’ve got to comply with traffic regulations or else you might find out that this occurs again at some point.”
Solicitor Krissy Cummins said Nolan-Judd had asked about getting a restricted licence for work but she had informed him that he was ineligible to apply for one and Magistrate Press backed that up by saying: “You can’t get a work licence.”
Ms Cummins added: “Your Honour, he tells me that he will lose his job (as a result of the licence disqualification).”
Mr Press fined Nolan-Judd $300 and disqualified him from driving for six months.
