A fly-in, fly-out miner accused of “aggressively” driving and causing a crash which killed a Yeppoon mother of four has failed in his bid to have his trial delayed.

This is despite his lawyer asking Rockhampton District Court for more time, claiming his client had previously been off work for several months after having heart surgery and money was tight.

Brianne Doyle had just dropped her kids off to school and was heading to work when her Toyota SUV was involved in a serious collision with a campervan on Tanby Rd, Yeppoon, in October 2020.

Both vehicles left the road and hit trees with the single mother of four suffering head injuries.

Brianne, 32, was flown to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a critical condition and died a week later.

The campervan driver, Ipswich resident Roger Michael Cossar, was later charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death.

Mr Cossar, who was currently working in Mali, a country in West Africa, was represented by Andrew Hanlon from Potts Lawyers in an update to the Rockhampton District Court on August 4.

Mr Hanlon applied to the court to delay the trial four months as his client was struggling to find the funds for the trial.

The Department of Public Prosecutions did not object to the request.

However, Judge Jeff Clarke felt the case had already been delayed with the committal hand-up taking place almost two years after the accident, in September 20, and the indictment presented in the district court in March 2023.

He denied the application.

The trial is scheduled to start on November 5.
