A ‘health and wellness adviser’ at a private health insurance company allegedly supplied methamphetamines and marijuana while she was working.

Magistrate Philippa Beckinsale referred to Kylie Maree Hatfield’s role at Medibank in Stockland as ‘ironic’ given the allegations she communicated with her customers on social media and some of the supplies taking place while she was at her legitimate employment.

Ms Hatfield, who was on bail at the time of eight of the alleged supplies, made an application for bail in Rockhampton Magistrates Court today, October 9, after being charged with 72 counts of supplying drugs.

Defence lawyer Felicity Davis said the alleged supplies were detected by police when inspecting Ms Hatfield’s mobile phone.

She said Ms Hatfield, who was granted bail recently after being charge with possessing more than two grams of a schedule one drug, had been living with her parents on Elphinstone Street, Berserker, and had proposed to live there if granted bail.

Ms Davis said her client was employed at Medibank at Stockland Rockhampton as a ‘health and wellbeing adviser’, to which Ms Beckinsale commented: “how ironic”.

The court heard there was an allegation one of the supplies was to a minor.

Ms Davis said her client, who had a limited criminal record, was willing to have bail conditions of no social media or smart phones, given the allegations involved using those as part of the supplies, and no contact with the people she allegedly supplied drugs.

Ms Beckinsale said there was also allegations Ms Hatfield was supplying drugs while she was at her legitimate workplace.

Police prosecutor Clancy Fox said the significant number of supply charges dates are across the span of a year with some amounts for a small amount of illicit drugs.

“The argument could be made that her offending is escalating to the point of her requiring larger and larger amounts of drugs in her possession to facilitate more and more supplies,” he said.

Mr Fox said it was in an affidavit before the court that Ms Hatfield “regularly calls in sick for work”.

He said given the allegations, Ms Hatfield was not at risk, at this stage, of spending too much time in custody than ultimately sentenced.

Ms Beckinsale refused to grant Ms Hatfield bail and remanded her in custody.

Briefs of evidence were ordered and her charges were adjourned until November 22.
