A convicted Qld drug trafficker has ended up back in court – this time after being busted with 31.4 grams of methamphetamine and “bush weed”.

Brian Ralph Doyle, 59, had been at a police target’s house before being intercepted by officers and searched, crown prosecutor Monique Bros-Wilshire told the Supreme Court in Rockhampton on December 8.

She said Doyle told police the 13.8 grams of marijuana he had was “bush weed” from his backyard and he intended to smoke it.

Justice Michael Copley said after the search, while police were doing paperwork, one of the officers noticed an item fall from Doyle’s shorts pocket which was the methamphetamine.

There was 22.817 grams of pure meth in 31.402g of substance.

Doyle failed to provide access to his phone when asked at the watch-house.

The court heard this was his 11th sentence for drugs and he had been sentenced in the Supreme Court in 2017 for supplying drugs – three meth and eight marijuana and one flakka – and then trafficking drugs in 2024.

Justice Copley said Doyle failed to report to probation and parole services six times and had been busted for drug driving while on bail.

Defence barrister Maree Willey said her client was a carer for a female friend who had been diagnosed with paranoid Schizophrenia.

Doyle pleaded guilty to one count of possessing more than two grams of a schedule one drug, one count of possessing a dangerous drug and contravene order to provide access to electronic stored information.

Justice Copley sentenced Doyle to 3.5 years prison to be suspended after serving 14 months with no presentence custody declared.
