A Central Queensland man who led police on a foot chase through bushland has faced court for his offending.

Quaid Andrew Harold Stocker, 28, pleaded guilty in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on March 29 to obstructing police.

Police prosecutor Senior Constable Sarah Rowe said that on February 20, about 3.45pm, two police officers attended a residence at Darcy Street, Mount Morgan, in a bid to locate Stocker in relation to a matter.

Snr Const Rowe said as the officers approached the gate, Stocker’s mum met them at the front of the residence.

While police were talking with Stocker’s mum, Stocker appeared and then approached, telling his mum: “Do not let them in”.

Snr Const Rowe said the officers explained to Stocker the reason for their attendance.

“Stocker was verbally hostile and refused to present to police and take paperwork, instead remaining approximately 10m in the yard with his mother between him and police,” Snr Const Rowe said.

“It was negotiated that police would read the documents to Stocker and leave - Stocker agreed.”

Snr Const Rowe said prior to police being able to explain the documents, Stocker turned abruptly and walked away from police.

One of the police officers walked towards Stocker and told him that he was obstructing.

Snr Const Rowe said Stocker immediately began sprinting away and he jumped a large fence which led to thick overgrowth and down an embankment.

One of the police officers pursued Stocker and yelled out for him to stop.

“Stocker continued to attempt to escape by running through vegetation and calling for police to ‘f--- off’,” Snr Const Rowe said.

The pursuing police officer caught Stocker and he was restrained, arrested and taken to the watch-house where he was later charged.

The court heard Stocker had a one-page criminal history with previous entries of contravene requirement.

Solicitor Samantha Legrady said Stocker was a roofer and at the time of the offence, he was highly intoxicated.

“That day had been difficult for him (personal reasons) and unfortunately he had been drinking,” Ms Legrady said.

The solicitor noted the last entry on Stocker’s criminal history was from 2016.

Magistrate Cameron Press fined Stocker $550 and a conviction was recorded.
