Here are the latest drink-driving, drug-driving, and disqualified driving offenders to plead guilty in Yeppoon Magistrates Court.

Yeppoon Magistrates Court, February 24:

P-plater Paris Ann Walker, 20, was caught drink-driving on Arthur Street, Yeppoon, on January 13.

Walker returned a reading of 0.017.

She was fined $650 and disqualified from driving for five months.

Wayne Alfred Crosthwaite, 69, blew a reading of 0.120 when he was caught drink-driving on the Scenic Highway, Kinka Beach, on February 5.

With previous drink-driving offences on his history but nothing in the past five years, Crosthwaite, a pensioner, was fined $650 and disqualified from driving for five months.

Yeppoon Magistrates Court, February 17:

Jason James Dixson, 50, was caught drink-driving while his licence was suspended on Appleton Drive, Yeppoon, on January 15.

The court heard that Dixson came to the attention of police about 10.10pm because his vehicle had no headlights on and it was veering onto the wrong side of the road.

After Dixson was intercepted he returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.097.

Checks revealed Dixson’s licence was suspended from December 7, 2021, due to unpaid fines.

Dixson told police he did not know his licence was suspended.

Police Prosecutor Sergeant Kevin Ongheen said on Dixson’s history was two previous unlicensed driving offences in 2021, but no drink-driving offences in the past five years.

Dixson, who represented himself in court, said he had a mining claim at Sapphire where he lived and worked.

Magistrate Philippa Beckinsale fined him $800 and disqualified him from driving for four months.

Julie-Ann Debbie Cooper, 52, was caught driving while demerit-point disqualified at Yeppoon on February 2.

The court heard that after Cooper was pulled over for a licence check on the Scenic Highway, police checks revealed that she had been suspended in December for six months.

Police Prosecutor Sergeant Kevin Ongheen said Cooper told police that she knew her licence was suspended and she had to take her daughter to work.

Sgt Ongheen said Cooper’s traffic record confirmed why she had a demerit-point suspension.

Solicitor Krissy Cummins said that Cooper, a mother of two, was a cleaner but she lost her job late last year and she was now on a disability support pension.

“She lost her job due to a demerit-point suspension,” Ms Cummins said.

Magistrate Philippa Beckinsale fined Cooper $450 and disqualified her from driving for six months.

Joshua Ronald Nobbs, 29, was caught drink-driving at Yeppoon on January 23.

He blew a reading of 0.083.

The self-employed contractor was fined $500 and disqualified for three months.

He was granted a restricted licence for work purposes.

Brandon Lawrence Anthony Story, 28, had some luck when he pleaded guilty to a drink-driving charge.

Story was caught on November 12 last year on Yeppoon Road and blew a reading of 0.079.

Police Prosecutor Sergeant Kevin Ongheen said Story’s traffic record suggested he was verging on not being a fit and proper person to hold a driver’s licence.

Magistrate Philippa Beckinsale acknowledged that, saying Story was “perilously close” to not being a fit and proper person to hold a driver’s licence describing his traffic history as “pretty poor.”

She fined him $350 and disqualified him from driving for one month.

Story was granted a work licence for his job as a stonemason.

Daniel Robert Nagy-Clark, 32, was caught driving with methamphetamines in his system when police stopped him on Adelaide Park Road, Yeppoon, on November 27 last year.

With no offending of this nature on his traffic history, Nagy-Clark, who works on Great Keppel Island, was fined $350 and disqualified from driving for one month.
