A mother who yelled and screamed at police and ambulance officers at the scene of an incident at Emu Park, has faced court.
Melitta Lee Vilciauskas, 32, pleaded guilty in Yeppoon Magistrates Court on September 23 to obstructing police in the vicinity of a licensed premises.
The court heard that on February 20 at 8pm, police were called to Emus Beach Resort at Emu Park in relation to a disturbance.
When officers arrived they were confronted by an aggressive man who had to be restrained.
While police were dealing with that man, Vilciauskas continued to interrupt them and also ambulance officers by yelling and screaming at them.
She was warned multiple times not to obstruct police and ambulance staff.
Police then went to speak to witnesses about the man who was arrested and Vilciauskas continued to follow the officers around and “stuck her phone in their faces” while they were taking statements from witnesses.
She was warned to step away but she refused, and was subsequently arrested.
Vilciauskas’s solicitor said Vilciauskas, a single mother of three, accepted those facts and on the night of the incident she had been drinking.
“In terms of her (criminal) history, most of it is drug related,” the solicitor said.
“My client instructs that she has got away from that.”
Magistrate Cameron Press noted that Vilciauskas had an assault and obstruct police conviction on her history from 2016.
“It is important that if police give you an instruction, that you follow the instruction,” Mr Press said.
“They are going about their job trying to assist the community, and this type of behaviour is just a hindrance to them pursuing that.”
Mr Press placed Vilciauskas on probation for 10 months with conditions and a conviction was recorded.
