A man has faced court after he followed his ex-lover to a Central Queensland mining camp where they had a confrontation in the carpark.

The man in his 20s, who by law cannot be named, pleaded guilty in Biloela Magistrates Court on July 27 to one count of contravening a domestic violence order as a repeat offender.

Police Prosecutor Kelvin Boyd said the man and the victim were an ex-couple who had been in an intimate relationship.

Mr Boyd said on May 13 about 1pm, the woman was driving from Biloela to Moura when she passed the man driving in the opposite direction.

Mr Boyd said the man conducted a U-turn and began following the woman.

“The (man) followed the (woman) for approximately 18km and into a carpark at the Moura mining camp,” Mr Boyd said.

Mr Boyd said the woman parked her car and the man began doing laps around the carpark and driving in front of the woman.

The prosecutor said another man met the woman in the carpark and got into her vehicle.

Mr Boyd said the woman then tried to drive out of the carpark when her ex-partner (the defendant) parked his vehicle in the driveway, blocking her from leaving.

“The (defendant) left his vehicle and began waving at the (woman) to come and talk to him.”

Mr Boyd said the woman had to drive around her ex-partner and his vehicle to exit the carpark.

The court heard that the defendant then threw a thong which hit the woman’s vehicle.

The court was told an aggravating circumstance to the man’s offending was that he had previously committed a similar offence in the past five years.

Solicitor Richard Parks said the man, a Central Queensland mine worker, was now single after his relationship with the victim had “broken down”.

Mr Parks said this offending was a “low level incident.”

Magistrate Philippa Beckinsale fined the man $500 and she did not record a conviction.
