A helicopter crew and water police were called out in the middle of the night to help rescue a skipper whose boat had taken on water near Great Keppel Island on the Capricorn Coast.
Rockhampton’s RACQ Capricorn Rescue was called in to assist with a search for a vessel reportedly in distress and taking on water between Great Keppel Island and Lady Musgrave Island.

The helicopter left base at 11.50pm on Wednesday night and the vessel was located at anchor at 12.15am, approximately five miles south of Great Keppel Island.
Contact was made with the skipper who advised it was having intermittent electrical issues and had managed to slow/stop the water coming into the vessel.
The coordinates of the vessel were passed onto the Gladstone and Yeppoon Water Police who were tasked to the area.
Yeppoon Coast Guard reported the weather was varied last week due to Cyclone Jasper which hit parts of Cairns.
The higher temperatures and windy conditions saw a smaller number of users go out to sea.
Coastal weather for Thursday morning had calmed down with Bureau of Meteorology recording wind gusts of five knots west southwest at 12.30am and nine knots north north-easterly by 8am.
The marine weather is forecast to be northerly, between 10 to 15 knots from Thursday to Saturday, with an 80 per cent chance of showers and chance of thunderstorm on Friday and Saturday.
The seas and swell are expected to be around one metre.
