After the annual school NAPLAN testing was interrupted in 2020 because of Covid, the results for last year’s testing have been released, with schools in the Rockhampton and Gladstone regions performing well.
According to the results, the Rockhampton Grammar School students were top of the class for Rockhampton’s primary and secondary schools with both grades giving the school an average of 985.6.
Meanwhile, Mount Morgan Central State School came in second in the primary schools with an average of 967.2.
RGS School headmaster Dr Phillip Moulds said the school was proud of the results achieved by students.
“The school is proud of the outcomes achieved by our students in the NAPLAN tests, however these results are only one measure that we use to inform our programmes at RGS,” he said.
“Students are individuals and our goal is to ensure that we provide them with a holistic education that supports them to achieve their personal best, not only academically, but as positive contributors to our community.”
Dr Moulds said preparations were already underway for this year’s NAPLAN tests to be sat in May.
“The School’s NAPLAN trial will be held next week,” he said.
“This is the first year RGS will complete NAPLAN Online, where students will be able to familiarise themselves with new skills including typing, using online rulers and mathematical tools and reviewing work online.”

“Trinity College values the information which NAPLAN provides about each student and how they are progressing from years 3 to 5, 5 to 7 and 7 to 9. It is this long-term data on individual student progress which assists us in providing the highest quality education we can,” said Trinity College principal Stephen Babbage.
“In 2022, preparations for NAPLAN have been interrupted with a shortened Term 1 and COVID absences. Despite these challenges, we will be undertaking online NAPLAN practice on Thursday 24 March as a key step to supporting our students to do their best on the day.”
