Helicopter called for rescue near Pelican Island off Rockhampton coast

A rescue helicopter and paramedics have been called to rescue a pair from a sinking boat off the Queensland coast.

A pair has been rescued from a sinking boat off the Central Queensland coast.

Emergency crews received reports of a boat sinking near Pelican Island about 5.30pm yesterday, May 4.

Paramedics said a helicopter was called to the search off the Rockhampton coast and two uninjured people were rescued and returned to land.

The pair declined to be taken to hospital.

The Department of Environment describes Pelican Island as a rarely visited, rugged island where anchorage is allowed with camping on a western-facing beach.

It is about 5km off Emu Park.
