“Ride on in heaven, Darren.”
That is among the heartfelt tributes being shared on social media for Glenlee’s Darren Holley who tragically died in a single-vehicle motorcycle crash at St Lawrence between Rockhampton and Mackay on Friday, May 6.
Queensland Police said initial investigations suggested he was travelling along the Bruce Highway just before 5pm when he lost control and crashed into a barrier on the side of the Heifer Creek bridge.
Passers-by rendered first aid, however Darren, an adored father, died on scene a short time later.
“A motorcycle was travelling on the highway has veered off the road into a guard rail and unfortunately the driver was deceased on scene,”
Acting Inspector Anthony Cowan said in Mackay on Monday.
“We’re unsure of the cause at this stage.
“Another driver came across it and called police.
“I believe he lives in Rockhampton and works a lot in Mackay.”
Darren, 50, went to Glenmore State High and during his career worked as a tilt tray operator and security dog handler at Queensland Power Mackay.
He also spent time in Emerald, working at the popular Maraboon Tavern.
It is understood he was travelling to Mackay when the crash occurred.
