North Rockhampton could soon be home to a brand-new childcare centre.

Plans were recently lodged with Rockhampton Regional Council for the centre to be built in Park Avenue.

According to the plans, the childcare centre would be built at 11, 9 and 7 Denning St, which also has frontage on Boland St.

The proposed site, which currently consists of three dwellings all owned by the applicant, is located behind Beaumont Tiles, Petbarn Rockhampton, The Outpost and Trend Interiors Tile and Carpet Court.

It is also close to Emmaus College, which has campuses on Main St and Yaamba Rd.

According to the plans, the centre would be able to accommodate up to 78 children.

The centre would have a nursery room which would have a capacity of 12 children, a toddler room for 18 children, and kindy and pre-kindy rooms for 24 children each.

As well as the rooms for children, the development would also include amenities such as an offices, kitchens, storerooms and a shower.

The designs also include a main outdoor play area with a sandpit, a dedicated play area for the nursery and a water play area that is fenced separately for “educational guided classes or allocated water play time”.

There is also the option for pre-kindy to have its own play area, with the suggestion to have permanent motor and balance gym equipment.

According to the development application, the centre would be operational between 7am and 6pm and have 13 staff.

The centre would be accessed via Denning St, with the exit onto Boland St, and would have 26 car parks, including 13 parks for staff, 13 parks for customers, one park for people with disability, three pram friendly parks and one drop-off or loading bay.

Recently, popular Rockhampton not-for-profit Elfin House Community Child Care Centre closed its doors, with caregivers and educators given no notice the centre would not be opening again.

The Morning Bulletin understands the centre sent a message to families on June 21, the last day of the school term, requesting they immediately collect their children because the centre would no longer be operating.
