A new Rockhampton clinic offers general ultrasound, womens, vascular, paediatrics, musculoskeletal and obstetrics services – and without long wait times.

A boutique, family owned ultrasound clinic has opened in Rockhampton, filling a gap for much-needed health services in the city with the added positive of no wait times.

Owner and sonographer Ashleigh Buchholz officially opened the doors to her new clinic, Elite Imaging Group, on Monday (June 12) at 190 Bolsover St in the former Raine and Horne building.

The site has been renovated to be a warm and inviting space for patients to feel comfortable and relaxed.

“Everything has come together really well, I am excited to see our patients come through the doors and hopefully be impressed by what we have to offer,” Ashleigh said.

“All we want is a nice and welcome environment for people to come and feel at ease.

“Some of the time it’s not always happy, you need an ultrasound, you’re stressed out, you want answers, we are hoping to give that to people.”

The clinic offers all ultrasound services from general, womens, vascular, paediatrics, musculoskeletal and obstetrics.

It also specialises in 3D and 4D baby screens and offers customised gender reveals.

The rooms have been designed to be homely and don’t have the ‘clinical feel’ of an average hospital or clinic.

“We have the couches, a big television you can see bub on, LED lights, you can bring your mum, mother-in-law, partner, have a nice experience rather than just in and out,” Ashleigh said.

Ashleigh has worked in sonography across Central Queensland for many years and completed her postgraduate degree in 2016.

Last year she began to think about opening her own clinic and once she had the idea, she couldn’t let it go.

“I felt like I had more to offer, I am very blessed to have a good support system which enables me to do so,” she said.

“I spent all my time researching the best way to go about it and it came together from there.”

Another focus of Elite Imaging Group is to have longer appointment times and no wait times.

Some other clinics in Rockhampton have three to four week wait times for ultrasound appointments.

“We want to give people that high-quality attention they require now rather than later,” she said.

By opening a locally-owned and operated business, Ashleigh hopes she sets an example for students.

“We don’t have anyone local who is doing this so how do kids at school know this is a field that they want to go into,” she said.

“I want to promote the avenue, teach them this is what you need to do at university, and we will support them.”
