Queensland’s flood toll rises as missing woman’s body found on Gold Coast

A Gold Coast woman was last seen in her pyjamas near a Hungry Jacks before disappearing into floodwaters. Her body was found this morning.

Gabrielle Sale was the eleventh victim of the Queensland floods.

Queensland’s flood death toll has climbed to 11 after the body of a woman was found on the Gold Coast.

The missing woman was identified as Gabrielle Sale, known to friends as Gabby or Gabs.

According to a Facebook post, she was last seen in her pyjamas near Hungry Jack’s at a Mudgeeraba on Sunday driving a silver 1998 Holden Astra.

Police divers have recovered 42-year-old Gabrielle’s body on Saturday morning.

“The woman was reported missing on Tuesday, March 1 and was last seen on Sunday February 27 travelling in a vehicle on Gunsynd Road near Bonogin Creek,” police said.

Multiple police, Polair and dive squad officers have been searching in the area the vehicle was last seen.

Mudgeeraba residents had earlier taken to the community page to question why PolAir was hovering over the area.

“My friend went missing last Sunday night from that area,” one woman responded.

“They are looking in the rivers for her. We fear she may have got swept into river in flood water.”

Locals have also taken the time to express their sorrow at the tragedy.

“This hits close to home,” one woman posted on the Mudgeeraba Community Facebook page.

Another posted that she had seen search helicopters and police in the area overnight.

“RIP … thinking of her family at this tragic time,” she wrote.

Forensic examination and analysis will be required to confirm the woman’s identity with police to prepare a report for the Coroner.
