Amateur weather watchers are predicting four days of supercell storms across central and southern Queensland, starting on Friday.

SEQ Supercells and Higgins Storm Chasing have both posted the potential for heightened storm activity, including heavy rain.

The Bureau of Meteorology has confirmed that storms are likely due to a large weather system pulling moisture over the state

“A weather system drawing tropical moisture in the upper level is coming from the west and will hit northern New South Wales and Southern Queensland,” The Bureau’s spokesman Daniel Hayes said.

“This system is expected to arrive on Friday, starting with a bit of moisture heading towards Saturday and then on Sunday that's when we can really expect to see some showers and storms developing.

“At this stage, we can expect to get anywhere from 10-15mmm of rain with Brisbane forecast to be partly cloudily with showers on that Sunday as well.”

Heading north, a surface level trough is heading northwards towards Rockhampton, the Central West and northwestern parts of Queensland.

“A trough has generated some wind change which we have seen in the last couple of days,” Mr Hayes said.

“This trough is expected to generate a little bit of rain and some scattered showers across the Capricornia, there will be some activity, storm activity, but not a huge amount in the area.”
