Queensland town of Bucca smashed by supercell storm, reports of tornado

A small Queensland community has been smashed after a supercell storm reportedly produced a tornado that brought down trees, damaged homes and killed wildlife.

Supercell storm hits Bundaberg region

A supercell storm has slammed into the small Queensland community of Bucca, causing widespread damage and killing wildlife.

There are reports the storm produced a tornado that hit the town located just west of Bundaberg late on Tuesday night.

Trees and buildings are down across the community, roads are closed and there are reports that wildlife were killed.

Residents are reporting rainfall in excess of 135mm overnight while some areas were hit by large hail.

“It was wild,” resident Rhiannon Green said.

“Been through a few cyclones and this was scary.

“We have trees down, half a feed shed missing, outdoor furniture all over the place. Lots of clean up today..”

Bucca local Ashley Chenhall said she recorded 100mm of rain with dozens of trees down on fences this morning.

“All animals counted for except for 3 chicks that drowned unfortunately,” she said.

“Trees and branches down on our road too plus a live wire down last night too.”

Another resident Di Mackie reported extensive damage at her property.

“About ten trees down including giant Bunya, car and ride on under a bloody tree, garden shed with one wall and another car scratched up by corrugated iron, I’ll see what else happened when it’s light,” she said.
