A Brisbane mother who caught five thieves trying to break in her home in the city’s south says her daughter will no longer sleep at night after the house was targeted.
Confronting security footage from the woman’s home revealed five brazen thieves walking around the home armed with a knife.
Kelliane Jones told The Courier-Mail the break-in had a huge impact on her daughter.
“It was terrifying. It was like watching an action movie. We couldn’t believe the sheer number of them,” she said.
“We have a young family and our daughter actually came home from her first day of high school sick because she feels it’s safer to sleep in the daytime now.
“She refused to sleep in her bed last night. As a parent it’s beyond our comprehension that we can’t give or make our children feel safe.
“That’s our job, right?”
She said the government had a lot to answer for given people were unable to feel safe going to sleep in their own homes.
“I can’t guarantee or promise that they won’t come back, but as a parent and homeowner I should be able to have faith in our legal system,” she said.
“If they are ever caught they won’t walk off with a warning. Our justice system is a joke!
“We were lucky that our house did its job, it protected us but others are not so lucky. I’ve had several people in surrounding areas message to say they weren’t so lucky.”

Police allege attempts were made to break-in to five homes between 1.50am and 2.40am on Madeline St, Audrey St, Kennington Rd, Obsidian St and Indus St.
No access was gained to any of the homes and no one was injured.
“At approximately 2.40am a group attempted to break into the home, and unlawfully entered a vehicle, before leaving on foot,” A Queensland Police spokeswoman said.
“Investigations into the incident are ongoing, police ask anyone with information or relevant footage to come forward.”
