One person has died in a horror single-vehicle crash in Bowen

A teenage boy has died and another is in hospital after a fiery crash in Bowen, with police alleging the vehicle had been stolen three hours earlier.

UPDATE 12.50PM: A 13-year-old boy has died in a fiery single-vehicle crash in Bowen.

The Bowen boy died at the scene of the horrific crash while members of the public helped his 14-year-old passenger out of the wreck.

The vehicle was allegedly stolen from Sarina Tuesday night.

Superintendent Glenn Morris described the early morning crash as a “very sad and very tragic event” and confirmed police would allege the vehicle involved was stolen.

Superintendent Morris said the 14-year-old boy from Sarina was taken to Townsville Base Hospital for “further treatment and medical investigation”.

The boy suffered shoulder injuries and was understood to be in a stable condition.

“Investigations are currently under way in terms of the status of the vehicle and we will be alleging the vehicle was stolen from a Sarina address overnight,” Superintendent Morris said.

“But investigations are ongoing as to the circumstances of the vehicle coming into possession of the two young people.”

Superintendent Morris said the crash, which has closed the Bowen road, was a tragedy.

“A young person has lost his life and another young person who was in the vehicle with an accomplice or a friend has witnessed an occurrence and is undergoing medical treatment himself,” he said.

“The 14 year old received assistance from members of the public and was removed from the vehicle.

“It is a very sad and very tragic event.”

11.15AM: A person has died and a second is in hospital after a horror single-vehicle crash in Bowen.

Police have closed Queens Rd between King St and Kings Beach Rd as investigations get under way into the crash reported about 6.45am Wednesday.

It is understood police are investigating whether the vehicle was stolen.

A teenage boy suffered shoulder injuries and was taken to Bowen Hospital in a stable condition.

The car is understood to have struck a tree and rolled before catching alight near the intersection of Queens Rd and King St.

Multiple Queensland Fire and Emergency Services crews responded to the incident, extinguishing the blaze by 7.05am.

Police are expected to remain on scene for several hours with motorists urged to avoid the area.

8.30AM: There are fears for a teenager critically injured in a horror crash, which resulted in a car being engulfed in flames in Bowen.

Emergency services were called to the intersection of Queens Rd and King St about 6.45am following reports of a single vehicle crash with a car on fire.

A Queensland Ambulance spokeswoman said one boy in his early teens was taken to Bowen Hospital in a stable condition with a shoulder injury and grazes following a single vehicle rollover.

She said a second person was assessed for critical injuries.

It is understood the second person is a teenage boy.

Police are investigating the incident.

UPDATE 7.25AM: A person is in a critical condition and a teenage male has suffered a shoulder injury during a car fire in Bowen, a Queensland Ambulance spokesman said.

He said more people may be injured.

Emergency services were called to the intersection of Queens Rd and King St about 6.45am following reports of a single vehicle crash with a car on fire.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said two crews arrived at the scene about 7am and found a car fully engulfed in flames.

She said the fire was extinguished a short time later.

Emergency services remain at the scene.

INITIAL 7AM: There are fears people are possibly trapped in a car which is on fire in Bowen.

Emergency services were called to the intersection of Queens Rd and King St about 6.45am following reports of a single vehicle crash.

A Queensland Police spokeswoman said the car may have rolled and was now on fire.

It is understood initial reports from the scene suggest people may be trapped inside the car.

The spokeswoman said police, Queensland Fire and Emergency Service crews and paramedics were on scene.
