Kindy mum creates coronavirus support group

THE BIG heart of a Peregian kindy mum is helping to ease the pressures on our aged and frail residents amid coronavirus concerns.

Kelly Carthy is the founder of the recently formed coronavirus Community Care Network in Noosa.

As more and more people self-isolate, the support group will provide essentials to Noosa residents who have been advised to stay indoors.

"If and when we are told to stay in for a period of time it's important we give people the ability to get access to essentials," Mrs Carthy said.

Mrs Carthy reminded residents it didn't take much effort to reach out and show you care about those who may be feeling vulnerable.

"The one simple action if we want to be helpful is call them," she said.

"An old fashioned phone call has more impact than we realise."

The idea of the coronavirus support group came to her after she noticed a similar group was recently formed in Bondi.

"I woke up the other morning and the thought came to me," she said.

"I'm still young and fit and healthy.

"The Sydney group looked really impressive in terms of the structure to help others."

The Noosa coronavirus support group has already received great feedback on social media and Mrs Carthy encouraged more people to get involved.

"Community coming together in any form is powerful," she said.

"It's important we start moving away from fear and focusing on a solution."

Anyone interested in joining the group can request to join at the Facebook group coronavirus Community Care Network - Noosa.

All volunteers will require a police check.
