After eight years of trading the business fortunes have turned for the Lucky Charm newsagency in Noosa Civic which will be closing its doors on January 23.

Owner Cris Muggeridge has confirmed the lease on this popular business will lapse but is remaining tight lipped about why he and centre owner Mark Stockwell and his management team have been unable to negotiate a new lease.

Mr Muggeridge and his wife Debbie had only four years ago carried out a major renovation of their shop interior.

Mr Stockwell said the Lucky Charm had been a great tenant and “a big part of Noosa Civic for a long time”.

“We gave them an offer and they chose not to accept it, it’s as simple as that,” he said.

Mr Stockwell said his Noosa Civic team would be looking for a replacement tenant and another newsagency could be an option.

“I think that sort of use is important in Noosa Civic,” he said.

The impending closure has created a stir on community social media and has upset local Christine De Boer who has raised thousands of dollars for local charity using items donated by the newsagency.

Ms De Boer is urging the local community to drop by the Lucky Charm and thank the team for their services.

“This is devastating for Cris and Debbie for a number of reasons including the enormous amount of money they put into their renovation not that long ago,” she said.

“Understandably things are quite hard for them at the moment and I think it would be great if they were able to see how much they are appreciated,” Ms De Boer said.

Louise Scholes said this was the best newsagency in this area.

“The Civic is losing a very well loved icon,” she said.
