A Noosa dog cake business has found a new niche to make a buck by catering for gender reveal parties.

Noosa Dog Cakes owner Danne Ericson-Wirth, 42, has revealed the weird and wacky occasions she caters for, including making canine cakes for gender reveal parties.

"In the last 12 months, I have done a few gender reveals," she said

"These are people who have for years nurtured their fur babies but finally fall pregnant and want to be inclusive with their first in line, their dogs.

"They get the dogs to reveal the gender.

"I also had somebody get a cake for the entire grooming room because it was their puppy's first groom."

Ms Ericson-Wirth handmakes 10 cakes a week on average, 20 in a big week, and often sells out all her extra goodies such as doggie doughnuts at her weekend market stalls.

The former hospitality worker stumbled into her new business in 2017 when she wanted to buy a cake for her miniature dachshund Frank's second birthday.

"I couldn't find anyone around her to make a cake so I made my own," she said.

"One of my friend's said 'oh my god this is great, can you make one for my dog' and then it was a friend of a friend.

"I was a single mum looking at re-entering the workplace, so I thought 'oh well it's now or never'."

Some of her creations include meat loaf, the carob, bacon and natural peanut butter combo to chicken breast and lactose free cheese. The cakes come with options of special icing that includes carob and natural yoghurt.

Ms Ericson-Wirth said there were two camps of dog lovers.

"Those people with dogs in the backyard that don't come in the house - they say 'oh my god I can't believe you're making a cake for a dog'," she said.

"Then you've got the other extreme, people are celebrating every milestone of their dog's life because they don't have children themselves or their children have grown up and moved out."
