Queensland has locked in another Hollywood juggernaut, with production now underway on the Gold Coast for the latest instalment in the billion-dollar Godzilla x Kong franchise.
The yet-to-be-titled blockbuster is being filmed at Village Roadshow Studios and marks Legendary Pictures’ fourth production in Queensland in under a decade.
It follows Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, which was filmed on the Gold Coast in 2022 and released in 2024, becoming the highest-grossing Godzilla film of all time. The Monsterverse franchise has now earned more than $2.5 billion globally.
The new film will be directed by Australian filmmaker Grant Sputore (I Am Mother) and features a high-profile cast including Dan Stevens, Kaitlyn Dever, Jack O’Connell, Sam Neill, Matthew Modine, Alycia Debnam-Carey and Delroy Lindo.
It also reunites key crew with experience on major international blockbusters such as Star Wars, Spider-Man and Avengers: Endgame.
Arts Minister John-Paul Langbroek hailed the production as a “major economic win”, tipped to inject $93 million into the local economy and employ more than 400 cast and crew.
“These productions provide our highly sought-after crews with a steady pipeline of projects and create opportunities for the next generation to hone their skills,” Minister Langbroek said.
The project is supported by Screen Queensland’s Production Attraction Strategy, along with contributions from the Australian Government and the City of Gold Coast.
This Monsterverse sequel joins a slate of high-profile international productions filming in Queensland in 2025.
Other major projects filming in the state this year include Anaconda starring Paul Rudd and Jack Black, Bear Country with Russell Crowe and Nina Dobrev, FING! starring by Taika Waititi, Spa Weekend featuring Isla Fisher, Anna Faris, Leslie Mann and Michelle Buteau, and Voltron starring Henry Cavill.
