A murder victim’s brother has been banned from court as a supreme court judge calls for new security arrangements after a killer’s sentence was thrown into chaos earlier this week.

The now 18 year old killer murdered a 19-year-old man in Acacia Ridge last May by stabbing him multiple times in the leg, abdomen and back with a large knife.

The man, who was 17 at the time an can’t be identified, was moments away from being sentenced on Monday when chaos erupted in the Brisbane courtroom.

The murder victim’s brother was seen allegedly lunging at the teenage killer and has been charged with assault.

Police say the killer sustained a minor injury to his back after he was attacked with a pen moments after he was brought into the courtroom for sentencing.

The sentence was abandoned and the case reviewed on Wednesday afternoon.

Justice Rebecca Treston set a new sentencing date of Monday and discussed security arrangements with the parties.

Prosecutor Chris Cook suggested the victim’s family be provided a separate courtroom to observe the sentence.

“The individual involved in the incident on Monday is prohibited from attending,” Mr Cook said.

The murder victim’s 22-year-old brother, from Acacia Ridge, has now been charged with one count of assault occasioning bodily harm whilst armed and making threats.

He will appear before Brisbane Magistrates Court on April 10.

The killer pleaded guilty to murder in December.

Monday’s sentence is expected to take several hours.
