An angry Gold Coast mum has posted pics of her 11-year-old daughter allegedly being “viciously attacked” by a group of teenage girls outside a local McDonald’s restaurant.

Lauren Lewer took to social media on Friday to warn other parents about the alleged assault at The Pines shopping centre at Elanora.

“Today at The Pines Shopping Centre, my 11-year-old daughter was viciously attacked by a group of 15-year-old girls while she was at McDonald’s with her friends,” she wrote on a community Facebook page.

“I was just a few shops away in the mall doing my grocery shopping when it happened.an

“The attack was completely unprovoked, and my daughter was left bruised, terrified and in tears. I can’t begin to describe how heartbreaking it is to know your child was assaulted in a place where she should have been safe.”

Ms Lewer said other children had stood around filming the incident.

Police confirmed they were investigating a reported assault at Elanora.
Police confirmed they were investigating a reported assault at Elanora.

She said it was sparked by one of the alleged offenders trying to steal her daughter’s friend’s phone.

“They managed to take it and then smashed it,” she said.

“After that, they physically attacked (her).

“It was completely unprovoked.”

She had given video of the incident to police, along with a “full statement”.

“These girls are already well known to police,” she claimed.

“I’m posting this to warn other parents in our community: please be aware of who your children are around at The Pines and other public places.

“These girls targeted my daughter, and there is every chance they could do it to someone else’s child.”

Police confirmed they were investigating a reported assault at Elanora on Thursday afternoon.

“Initial reports indicate that around 12.40pm, a physical altercation has occurred between two groups of teenagers at a shopping centre near Guineas Creek Rd,” a police spokesman said.

“Officers attended a short time later and are now conducting inquiries in relation to the incident.”

The Pines is in the heart of Youth Justice Minister Laura Gerber’s Currumbin electorate and has been the scene of incidents involving teenage troublemakers.

Ms Lewer’s post sparked an angry reaction from locals.

“Honestly, it’s disgraceful,” one woman commented.

“These kids are often already known to authorities – so why are they still roaming around, targeting innocent young girls. There needs to be more accountability. If they’re old enough to pick fights and act feral, they’re old enough to face real consequences.

“We need more (correctional) facilities to deal with these violent teens properly.”
