A man has been taken to hospital in a life-threatening condition following a stabbing incident at a private address in Inala early on Monday morning.
Emergency services were called to reports of a stabbing shortly after 6am.
A man sustained wounds to his abdomen and limbs and was taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in a life-threatening condition.
A man was taken into custody at nearby Doollandella about 6.30am. Police will allege the men were known to each other.
A crime scene has been established around a property at Bellbird St, Inala where the stabbing took place.
Numerous properties are located within the section of the street that has been cordoned off.
Several people from inside the dwelling were seen being escorted by police from the scene including a man and a young child.
A neighbour told The Courier-Mail he woke up to a large police presence in the street.
“I just looked out the window because the dog was barking and I’ve seen a police car and an ambulance,” he said.
“Then I saw heaps of police turn up.
“It is the first time I’ve ever seen anything like this happen in this street.”
Sally Walker and her partner were on the veranda of their home when they saw a man wearing a mask enter their neighbour’s property.
“We heard blood-curdling screams, lots of banging, and then shortly after that we witnessed a man just walk out on the street and walk away, calmly walking away like nothing happened had happened,” Ms Walker said.
“He was wearing a full front of the neck to back of the neck mask, it was like a skin-coloured mask, it was like a full bank robber mask.
“He was wearing a long-sleeved blue checkered shirt and the mask, I just remember the mask so vividly.
“The screams alone were really terrifying, what I heard was terrifying.”
Ms Walker made the phone call to police after the man walked in the direction of Lorikeet St.
“As soon as we heard the screams and the kids screams, we knew it was serious,” she said.
“My partner was like get inside right now, because we didn’t know the situation, we didn’t know if it was one man or two men.
“It was not just a smash and grab for keys, it was something more nefarious.”
Ms Walker said the incident was “awful”. “It’s happened so close to home,” she said.
“Why would someone do that when they had kids in the house, it’s just heartbreaking.
“They are quite a large family, but they’re a beautiful family, and they keep to their own, I am feeling for them.”
There is no ongoing threat to public safety.
