Man charged over Porsche crash that killed Warwick businessman

A man who allegedly caused a fatal crash in Warwick’s town centre and left the scene without getting help has been charged.

A man has been charged over a crash that killed a 76-year-old Warwick businessman last week.

Respected community leader Greg Newey died when his Porsche was struck by an out-of-control ute being driven by a 22-year-old man in Warwick‘s CBD on September 14.

The ute allegedly travelled through the intersection of Myall Ave and Wood St and struck Mr Newey’s Porsche along Wood Street.
As a result of the collision the Porsche overturned and hit another car.
Mr Newey died at the scene.

The 22-year-old man was charged on Tuesday with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death and leaving scene without obtaining help.

He faced Warwick Magistrates Court on Tuesday afternoon.

Police said they were still seeing information from anyone who witnessed the crash or had dashcam footage.

“Police would like to thank the Warwick community for their support and assistance during this investigation,” a statement said.

“Information and CCTV provided through various sources has provided a significant amount of assistance to the investigation.”
