THREE women starring in a hilarious upcoming production are desperate to find some men keen to play a husband, the best friend and a foreign lover.

They are the women behind the British comedy play ‘First Things First’ directed by Maureen Coleman.

Ms Coleman said the plot followed a man who found himself involved in “shenanigans” after marrying for the second time.

“His first wife comes back after he thought she was dead,” Ms Coleman said.

“He thought she’d fallen off a mountain … it’d been 18 months since his wife disappeared in the Himalayas.”

She said he then had to try and keep each wife from finding out about the other.

“He pretends his first wife is his (best) friend’s wife and there’s a mother-in-law in there as well.

“It’s just really, really funny.”

But she said they needed volunteers to play the male characters.

“I’m still trying to find some men, they’re very scarce at the moment,” Ms Coleman said.

She said they did not need acting experience.

“If they’re enthusiastic, I can work with them, no problem.”

Cast member Luana Royle, who plays the snooty surgeon mother-in-law, joked, “How many men get to have two wives?”

“And a choice of either,” chimed in cast member Carolyn Roche, who plays the second wife.

Ms Coleman said theatre was a great, fun social outlet for people of all different backgrounds.

Indeed, Ms Royle in her day job runs rainforest scuba diving tours at Finch Hatton, Ms Roche is the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority assistant director of regional engagement and Jane Reddrop – who plays the first wife returned – works for the National Disability Insurance Agency.

Ms Roche said acting allowed people to “be someone else by taking on a character, a persona.”

If you think you could become the play’s missing male characters, phone the Kucom Theatre on 0439 684 548.

But if acting is not your thing, Ms Coleman said they were always looking for people to help with props, stage managing, lighting and sound.

The Kucom Theatre is located at 1 Snow Wright Ct, Andergrove.
