Shock images have surfaced showing a truck carrying diesel engulfed by flames on a major rural highway, less than four weeks after a similar incident in the same area.

Shock images have surfaced showing a truck engulfed by flames on a major Central Queensland thoroughfare - less than a month after a similar incident in the same area.

The Peak Downs Highway was closed in both directions at Nebo for about an hour after a prime mover towing a trailer carrying diesel caught fire early Saturday morning.

Images show the front of the vehicle consumed by flames, which luckily did not spread to the fuel load the truck was moving.

Three fire crews called to the scene near Strathdee Rd about 5.20am had the blaze extinguished just after 6am.

By about 6.30am the highway was opened with reduced lanes as fire crews remained on scene to deal with any hotspots from the smouldering wreck.

Ms Bryan’s property fronts the highway and heard the loud explosion about 10.40pm on March 29 - the truck had been carrying 50,000 litres of fuel which became fully engulfed and residents heard the bang up to 10km away.

Fire crews were still working late Saturday morning to cool the remains of the wreckage so it could be towed away.

The roadway was also damaged as a result of the heat from the fire.
