The future is as yet unknown for a popular farm-to-table dining experience, after the owners announced the restaurant would close their venue.

Executive chef Nik Flack returned home to the Pioneer Valley with his wife Em and two children to open The Flackyard in 2019 at the old church or ‘Church Cafë’ in Pinnacle, about 50 minutes from Mackay.

With degustation menus using Indigenous bush tucker and native foods, the restaurant is now well known and beloved by locals in the Greater Whitsunday region.

Yet the couple posted to The Flackyard’s Facebook page on Sunday to announce they were closing at the Pinnacle church — with a somewhat cryptic tone.

“There are too many words, that will all eventually be shared … but for today that’s enough to say,” the post read.

“We’d love to see you soon in this wonderful old building that’s been our home for the last (nearly) 5 years … bookings are always available here.”

Mr Flack said the family were “deeply grateful for how we have been embraced and supported by the Mackay/Isaac regional community all levels”.

He said most importantly he was grateful for Em and their boys Hunter and Iluka for helping make the dream a reality.

The Flackyard did not comment on what was causing the Pinnacle church closure, nor what may be coming after.

Fans have responded with love and concern, with many Mackay region locals hoping any future move would be nearby.

Kahmaia Haines-Illguth said it was “an end of an era at the old church - My wife and I have shared and created such lovely memories at The Flackyard, thank you Nik and Em for bringing such light and passion into the world.”

Lisa Roebig Holmes said the restaurant had “done amazing things for the profile of our region”, while Eva Brundell said she was “blown away by our first meal there and it has never ceased to amaze ever since”.
