New housing has been proposed for a Bowen Basin community while a nearby car hire shop seeks approval to expand.
The Ezy Vehicle Rentals — owned and operated by All Car Parts — near Moranbah Airport lodged plans to Isaac Regional Council to upgrade its facility by extending the workshop and building a new office.
Jewell Planning Consultants’ town planner Michael Jewell said if approved the proposed expansion would create a new 600 sqm space for repairing and servicing cars.
According to plans, the old office would be decommissioned once the new office is completed and house a kitchenette, lunch room, two private offices and a combined open plan room and reception area.
Documents submitted to the Isaac regional council state the proposed development would more than double the site’s existing workshop space.
Built next to the existing workshop, the new space could accommodate five large bays for vehicles and would allow the site to service mechanical and electrical components, as well as repair exhausts, tyres, suspension and airconditioning.
A triplex townhouses development for 1 Macpherson St has also been proposed for Moranbah.
Owned by mining company Stanmore Resources, the development proposes to create three two-bedroom townhouses.
Stanmore operate a number of mines in the Bowen Basin including Isaac Downs coal mine which was briefly shut by Resources Safety and Health Queensland on April 17.
Production has since resumed.
According to Real Estate.com the 848 sqm property was sold for $139,000 on April 10, 2025 by Infinity Property realtor Marie Dowie.
Mr Jewell — who prepared the development application on behalf of Stanmore — said “the development adds to Moranbah’s housing solution, providing three units with ample living space and private open space.”
“The intent of the project is to provide single level housing options, conveniently located within an established residential area and close to schools, shops and other community activities,” Mr Jewell said.
Documents submitted to council state each townhouse would come with an ensuite and open into a combined living, dining and kitchen space.
According to plans each home would have a garage, laundry room and patio, with the first townhouse featuring a larger garage than the others.
Public notification for the expansion at Ezy Vehicle Rentals and the housing development began on July 4, 2025.
