The rain was no deterrent as players gave it their all across both the women’s and men’s matches.

City men's and City women's came out on top in what shaped up to be a soggy Mackay City v Country AFL Anzac Day game.

City women's coach Jen Revell described the match as an "even contest".

The women's game was a 35-point draw at full time.

City women's managed to get one point up on the competition by the end of extra time, with a final score of 36 to 35.

"The rain definitely makes it tough conditions, but it evens the contest so it made for a really good game," Revell said.

City men's coach Brad Best said the turning point for the team came halfway through the third quarter, with his side eventually taking home the win with a final score of 41 to 29.

"I'm happy with how our boys responded and we came away with the win," Best said.

"The way the boys stuck together over the past few weeks is a testament to the competition and a testament to each individual.

"I'm pretty proud to be the coach of that side."

All gate proceeds from the day will be donated to the Magpies' Jack Fortescue Road to Recovery Fund.
