Queensland Hockey Championships kick off this weekend with Mackay stars ready to shine.

Mackay Hockey High Performance Academy coach Melissa Sorenson has offered her picks of which Mackay players to watch and why.

Claire Colwill - Defence

Claire will play for the Tweed team.

"Claire is a strong defender with amazing eliminating skills. She can get around players on the field."

Keeley Walker - Attacking mid

Keeley will play for the Gold Coast.

"Keeley's work ethic, workload and speed. She's really fast carrying the ball around on the field."
