The inaugural MI Scaffold Great Barrier Reef Arena T20 Bash for Cash cricket tournament has kicked off with the rain forcing a few tweaks to the program.
The competition held at the Harrup Park Country Club, originally planned as a T20 tournament, has been revamped into shorter T8 games.
Harrup Park general manager Adrian Young said the competition was going fantastically despite the change.
“Unfortunately we had about 70 millimetres of rain over the past few days,” Mr Young said.
“The other fields were too wet to play on, so we’ve played all the games today on field one.”

Mr Young said the shortened games were allowing for a better atmosphere, with players sticking around to watch the other teams bat it out.
“It’s been fantastic,” he said.
“We are actually now looking into doing short T10 games for tournaments in the future.”
Nine games were played on Saturday, kicking off at 9am and running through until 10.30pm with teams from around the state making the trip for a hit.

Bundaberg team Across the Waves player Sean Stuchbery was impressed with the set up.
Stuchbery said his team had travelled more than eight hours for the competition.
“Coming from Bundaberg, to see this amount of green like this is unreal,” he said.
“These facilities, they’re just unreal.”
The competition will run through the long weekend with finals planned for Monday.
