A CROSS-TOWN move may prove a pivotal point in Luke Vaccaneo's career.

The 21-year-old played his junior football at Norths Devils before signing with Souths Sharks for the 2013 season, and has now signed on with the Cutters.

He says his decision to join Souths played a big part in that window of opportunity opening for him.

"It was definitely a good move now," he said. "It makes it easier to stand out when everyone around you is quality and playing well.

"I just wanted to get coached there, really, and they said 'coming over here is the best way to get looked at'.

"Since the Cutters started, I've always wanted to have a crack."

Cutters chief executive Glenn Ottaway described Vaccaneo as a "standout" in the local competition this year, but Vaccaneo won't be resting on his laurels.

The utility back or half said he'd be giving his all when pre-season training started next month.

"(Playing for the Cutters) is probably the biggest role you can get here, and your first season in the Q Cup, you want to make the best impression you can," he said.

"I'm going to grab it with both hands. I don't want to finish up the season asking questions of myself, saying 'you could have done this' or 'you could have done that'."

Souths football manager Troy Rovelli said he was delighted for Vaccaneo.

"It's great reward for him - he came to us for the chance to make him a better player and now he's got the opportunity to play at that level," he said.
