RUGBY LEAGUE: Mackay's Matt Skaife is gearing up to take on the NSW Ron Massey Cup representative team with the Queensland Rangers at Pizzey Park tomorrow.
He is hoping to help the Queensland team to their third-straight victory in the annual interstate rivalry game.
The Mackay Brothers fullback will slot into his preferred position in the state team.
The 22-year-old is one of the many younger players in the squad which includes fellow North Queenslander Ross Bella, son of Queensland State of Origin player Marty Bella.
Queensland coach Glen Drege said the young, talented squad is an exciting prospect for footy in the state.
"We've got a little bit of experience as well, but it's a very youthful side,” he told QRL Media from camp on Friday, June 23.
Experienced players include Jason Wardrop - who is in his fourth year in the team and claimed the Men's Player of the Carnival award at the State Carnival - and Steven Franciscus.
Drege said the team had been preparing well and is focussing more on putting in a quality performance rather than securing a three-peat.
"They just need to go out and perform on Sunday now and I think the job will get done,” Drege said.
The match will be played at Pizzey Park on the Gold Coast as the curtain raiser to the Burleigh Bears v Ipswich Jets Intrust Super Cup game. Kick-off at 11.50am.
