Aaron Payne Cup and Cowboys Challenge continues, teams descend on Mackay for round five

The Aaron Payne Cup carnival is settling in Mackay for the week, with six blockbuster games set to be played in the Sugar City.

Teams from Townsville and Rockhampton will duel in Mackay on Wednesday, but St Patrick’s and Mercy College will travel south to play The Cathedral College.

Mackay State High School is set to play Emmaus College at 2.15pm in the Aaron Payne Cup, while the Cowboys Challenge clash is at 2pm.

Ignatius Park will play Rockhampton Grammar in Mackay at 11.45am, while Kirwan will face St Brendan’s after them at 1pm.

Mackay High upset Kirwan in its last Cowboys Challenge match, and the side will be hoping for a similar effort against Emmaus College.

Ethan Patterson was strong for Mackay High in the side’s first win of the tournament.

A dominant Ignatius Park dismantled St Pat’s in its last match of the Aaron Payne Cup, with a trip to Rockhampton the opportunity to record another win in the tournament.

Mercy College also lost to Iggy Park in a closer encounter, with table pressure now mounting after consecutive Cowboys Challenge losses.
