A woman in her 20s has escaped serious injuries after being bitten by a snake and then falling off the side of a cliff on Monday afternoon.

Paramedics were called to Ocean Ave at the ‘How’s the serenity’ walking track, north of Mackay at 2.18pm, following reports a woman had fallen after being bitten by a snake on her left leg.

Initial reports suggested the woman had fallen 10m into an embankment but a Queensland Fire Department spokesman later revealed the fall was 5m off the cliff face.

The runner reportedly called emergency services herself and was rescued by about 3.25pm.

She has since been released from hospital and suffered no significant injuries.

It is unclear what type of snake bit her.
