A developer has been approved to build 77 new units just a stone’s throw from a gorgeous Queensland beach and minutes from the centre of town.
The Beach Mackay has entered the next stages of its masterplan on 8 and Lot 901 Petrie St in South Mackay, overlooking Illawong Beach and under 10 minutes drive from the centre of town.
Aldev Developments had its application greenlit by Mackay Regional council on November 6 for five-storey apartments and townhouses that will expand the development’s 34 residential lots from Stage 1.
Stages 3 and 4 outline 77 apartments divided into 34 two-bed units and 42 three-bed units, each with views of the beach.
Stage 2 includes four townhouses to be built to the west of the development area, each containing three residences for a total of 12.
Layouts and concept art show apartment owners and renters would have access to a pool, spa, and barbecue pavilion.
A cafe, named in a level 1 layout as Providore Coffee, is also planned for the southeast corner of the apartment block facing Petrie St and Illawong Beach access paths.
The decision notice outlines a minimum 144 space car park with 16 visitor spaces and seven reserved for cafe patrons.
The developers acquired The Beach in 2013 after a $150 million approval to its previous owners in 2005, which stalled in 2008 with the project going into receivership five years later.
Aldev submitted the now approved new plans in January 2023.
Mackay Regional Council has estimated the infrastructure charges at over $2.4 million, with a $362,720.40 cost for Stage 2, $876,574.30 for Stage 3 and $1,177,846.60 for Stage 4.
