A struggling kayaker has sparked a police rescue after coming off their boat in the ocean and being unable to get back in.
A Queensland Police spokesman said they were called to Ian Wood Dr earlier this morning at around 7.15am, to reports of someone struggling to get back into their kayak off the shore from Dolphin Heads.
Police said initial information indicated the man was thrown into the water after his kayak’s main outrigger broke.
An outrigger is a device attached to a boat to help it float and provide stability.
A second paddle boarder safely towed the man back to shore before rescue crews or water police arrived.
A Queensland Ambulance spokeswoman confirmed a man in his 60s was assessed by paramedics in a stable condition with no injuries.
A nearby witness who spoke to this masthead claimed the man was struggling for some time after the rough seas made him capsize.
“He was probably in the water a couple of hours not coming close to shore or anything so obviously he had to be rescued,” they said.
“In the end it was his son who rescued him though.”
Police could not confirm it was the man’s son.
