Charges laid after alleged stabbings at Bowen, Mackay

Two youths have been charged after an 18 year old sustained puncture wounds to his back in a Bowen altercation which followed another alleged stabbing in Mackay.

Detectives have charged two youths after an alleged stabbing in Bowen on the weekend.

It will be alleged at 8:30pm on Saturday night, November 4, a disturbance occurred between a group of people near the intersection of Herbert Street and George Street.

During the altercation, an 18-year-old Bowen man sustained four puncture wounds to his back.

He was flown to the Townsville University Hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

A 17-year-old boy and a 16-year-old boy, both from Bowen, have been charged with grievous bodily harm and will appear in Bowen Childrens Court on Tuesday.

Earlier, another “altercation” involving five people, who police will allege were “known to each other”, broke out on Juliet St, between Evan and Hamlet Street, Mackay about 3pm.

Two Mackay men, aged 23 and 21, suffered non-life-threatening stab wounds while a 36-year-old woman, also from Mackay, sustained a minor facial injury as a result of the incident.

A 28-year-old Mackay man was not physically injured.

Police will allege the knifeman was a 27-year-old from Bucasia who was found “nearby”.

He has been charged with one count of wounding, three counts of assault occasioning bodily harm and one count of common assault.

Denied police bail, he is expected to appear at Mackay Magistrates Court on Monday, November 6.
