West Mackay: Man in critical condition after crash on Glenella Connection Road
A man remains critical in hospital after sustaining leg, chest and face injuries from a guard rail on a Mackay connection road over the weekend.

A man has been left with a compound fracture in his leg after a single-vehicle crash in West Mackay on Saturday night.
Travelling south on the northbound shoulder of the Glenella Connection Road just before 1am, the 33-year-old West Mackay man, the sole occupant of his vehicle, crashed his car into the safety guard rail.
Queensland Paramedics were called to the scene at 12.58am where they found the man in a serious condition.
The man had sustained multiple fractures including the compound fracture to his leg, and chest and face injuries.
Paramedics took the man to Mackay Base Hospital at 1.36am.
He is now in a critical condition at the hospital.
Glenella Connection Road was blocked in both directions at Hume Street for multiple hours.
In Gumlu this morning, two stable patients were transported to Ayr Hospital after another single-vehicle crash on the Bruce Highway.
Frustrated Mackay and Whitsunday police are imploring the community to talk about road safety as the district moves towards the deadliest road toll in five years.
The figure has prompted officers to refocus how they target driver behaviour.

As a result, police have refocused how they target bad driver behaviour as well as positive reinforcement messages for motorists.
However only 14 of those deaths will be counted in the official road toll, with two reported as being linked to suspected medical episodes.
The 2022 figures are a huge spike from the two lives lost in the same period in 2021.
There were 10 lives lost in 2020, which was considered the worst year in recent times, three in 2019 and five in 2018 – all in the same timeframe.
