A woman has been charged over a fatal crash west of Mackay that claimed the life of Clermont health hero Tam Dixon Frewin.
It is alleged the 33 year old had drugs in her system when her Toyota collided with the vehicle Mrs Dixon Frewin was driving.
The charges followed a police probe into a tragic incident on the Peak Downs Highway, about 25km west of Nebo.
The Australia Day Award nominee Mrs Dixon Frewin, 44, was taking an elderly client to the doctor when she died in a head-on collision on February 2.
The driver and sole occupant of the Toyota suffered serious injuries and was flown to Mackay Base Hospital.
Last week Mackay Forensic Crash Unit launched an appeal for witnesses who may have spotted the Toyota on the Peak Downs Highway in the minutes before the fatal crash occurred.
The 33 year old is charged with careless driving causing death, which has a maximum penalty of a $22,056 fine or two years jail, and a six-month driving disqualification if convicted.
She is also charged with driving with a relevant drug in her system.
Police alleged she was driving east on the highway between Coppabella and Strathfield and crossed the centre lines colliding head-on with Mrs Dixon Frewin’s vehicle.
She will appear in court in early May.
