A mother charged with attempting to kill her daughter could be referred to the Mental Health Court.

The woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is accused of stabbing the 17 year old girl in the chest six times on July 18, 2022 at a Dysart address.

In late 2023 a psychological assessment had been done on whether the woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was mentally fit to stand trial.

She is charged with attempt to murder (domestic violence offence), common assault, and serious assault resisting or obstructing a police officer or a person acting in aid of a police officer.

The woman has been remanded in custody since her arrest in mid 2022.

The case was briefly mentioned in Mackay Magistrates Court on January 17.

Legal Aid Queensland solicitor Danny Yarrow told Magistrate Damien Dwyer the matter had been referred by the Mackay office to the LAQ mental health team in Brisbane.

Mr Yarrow said the team was looking at referring the case to the Mental Health Court and asked that the matter was adjourned for three months.

Mr Dwyer adjourned the matter to May 8 for mention.

The woman’s appearance is excused on that date.
