After a motorbike cut him off near a regional shopping centre, an industrial cleaner took it upon himself to exact justice, pulling out a pocket knife and slicing open the bike’s seat.

A Mackay man slashed a motorbike rider’s seat in a fit of road rage after he was cut off near Caneland Central.

Cresenciano Jr Bibera Pitogo was driving near the centre on August 8, 2020 when a motorbike rider cut in front of him.

The man on the motorbike pulled into Caneland Central, leaving his bike parked in the southern carpark to enter the shopping centre.

Police prosecutor David Epstein said Pitogo walked past the bike a short time later taking out a pocket knife and slicing a 5cm rip in the motorbike’s seat.

Pitogo pleaded guilty in Mackay Magistrates Court on March 28, 2022 to wilful damage.

The court heard the matter was brought to the court’s attention as part of a police operation targeting “outstanding suspects in unfinalised matters”.

Pitogo’s solicitor Ancilla Seethya said her client, an industrial cleaner in the mines, told her he was “immature and did a regretful action and his actions were inexcusable”.

“He also expresses his apologies to the victim,” Ms Seethya said.

Magistrate Damien Dwyer asked Pitogo why he should allow him to keep his licence.

“He’s got all these speeding tickets so he’s not the best driver in the world,” Mr Dwyer said.

But Mr Dwyer said he took into account that Pitogo had not committed any offences since.

“But you could have lost your licence for a long time,” Mr Dwyer said.

Pitogo was fined $600 and ordered to pay $180.

He was allowed to keep his licence and no conviction was recorded.
