Amy Ellen Ford is charged with dangerous driving causing the death of Jamie Winn at Marian

A young woman charged over a crash in which a motorcycle rider was killed has appeared in court for the first time watched on by family and friends of the man who died.

A young woman accused of having both alcohol and drugs in her system when she allegedly wiped out a motorbike rider has appeared in court for the first time.

Family and friends of Jamie Winn, who died on a roadside at Marian, sat in Mackay Magistrates Court to watch as 24 year old’s name was called.

Amy Ellen Ford, who also had a number of supporters in court, faces a maximum of 14 years jail if convicted over the fatal crash on October 29, 2023.

She has been charged with dangerous driving causing death while adversely affected by an intoxicating substance after her silver Toyota Corolla slammed into Mr Winn’s black Harley Davidson.

The 35-year-old Mirani man had been on his way to work when the horror incident occurred about 3am on a Sunday about 3.5km west of Marian on Mackay Eungella Rd.

Police allege Ms Ford’s Corolla had crossed into oncoming traffic and into the path of Mr Winn’s motorbike, colliding head on near the Peaches Rd intersection.

He had been on his way to work at Paget but tragically died at the scene.

Photos of the vehicles as they were being towed from the scene show the significant damage.

The tragedy shattered the Mackay region community with those close to him rallying around his widow Krissinda, who has Multiple Sclerosis.

A GoFundMe campaign raised $11,750.

Ms Ford had been on her way home from work at the Railway Hotel and suffered facial and rib injuries, and was taken to Mackay Base Hospital for treatment.

She is further charged with driving under the influence, possessing a dangerous drug and possessing drug utensils.

Ms Ford’s lawyer Marcus Hahn, of Mckay’s Solicitors, said the aggravated dangerous driving charge must proceed in indictment, meaning it might be dealt with in the district court.

As a result a brief of evidence was ordered and the case was adjourned to late April and Ms Ford’s bail was enlarged.
