Plans unveiled to open 7 Eleven service station in Mackay

Krispy Kreme fans may no longer have to cart their doughy delights on the plane back to the sugar city. Here’s what we know.

An ageing Bruce Highway motel could be demolished to build the first 7 Eleven servo in Mackay.

Property Projects Australia has submitted plans to Mackay Regional Council to join two lots together at 191 Nebo Rd and 44 McGinn St in West Mackay to build the service station.

Dennis Michael Kay, Betty May Kay and Anthony Robert Kay own the two blocks totalling 2420sq m, currently the site of Mia Mia Motel.

It is understood the motel will soon close as the parcels of land change hands.

The proposed service station would have eight bowsers and 10 carparking spaces, and operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

“The applicant has secured a tenant for the proposed service station, 7 Eleven,” documents lodged to MRC state.

“It is anticipated that the proposed service station will be operated by one to two staff.”

Entrances would be off Nebo Rd as well as McGinns St with documents stating there was a “clear” need for another service station to meet population growth forecasts.

“Based on population growth and traffic demand within the catchment, there is an existing market gap of 1.6 service stations, which will increase to two service stations by 2036,” documents state.

The proposal adds the council was “generally supportive” of the 7 Eleven project.

Documents state the shop component would provide convenience retail sale of food and beverages but did not confirm whether this would include Krispy Kreme doughnuts.
