A Mackay mum who previously brought meth to a courthouse has been busted dealing drugs.
Shiann Karly Ashe, a repeat drug offender, was at home when police arrived to search her house in September 2023.
Mackay District Court heard that they found two clip seal bags filled with 1.5g of methamphetamine, less than a gram of marijuana, a glass bong, glass pipe and a phone.
A search of the phone revealed eight instances of supplying drugs between June 30, 2023 and September 9, 2023.
The court heard Ashe co-operated with police and told them she had drugs and utensils in a spare room, then directing them to where the items could be found.
Crown prosecutor Monique Sheppard said customers reached out to Ashe, asking if she had any marijuana for sale.
The police search also discovered $1200 in cash, three knives as well as “other drug paraphernalia”.
Ashe pleaded guilty to a raft of charges including eight counts of supplying a dangerous drug, two counts of possessing a dangerous drug and one count of possessing property obtained from supplying.
She sold meth and cannabis to five people on eight different occasions.
District Judge Gregory Lynham said the most concerning drug supply offence occurred on September 9, 2023 when Ashe exchanged 3.5g of meth for $1200.
“It’s clear you were involved in supplying at the street level and there was commercial aspects to your offending,” Judge Lynham said.
“You were making some profit from your drug activities.”
Defence barrister Scott McLennan said Ashe was mother to young son and had previously been in a relationship with a partner who was domestically violent toward her and was sending her threatening messages.
“She was afraid, her sleep was affected... she became hyper vigilant,” Mr McLennan said.
Mr McLennan said she began using methamphetamine and her supplying of drugs occurred because she was “essentially feeding her own habit and struggling financially”.
The court heard Ashe had a history of drug offences dating back to 2019 including an instance when she was discovered with methamphetamine at the Mackay courthouse in 2021.
Judge Lynham said Ashe was “starting to progress from low level drug offending”.
“Your offending now appears to be spiralling out of control,” Judge Lynham said.
“You’ve got a five year old son, you might want to think you might want to be a good mother for him.”
Judge Lynham sentenced her to 18 months imprisonment and ordered she be immediately released on parole, warning her to “kick the habit” and “this is your last chance to stay out of jail”.
“Either do something about your drug connection or inevitably confine yourself to a road leading to the Townsville correctional centre or somewhere else.”
Convictions were recorded in relation to all matters.
