Mackay’s Cheeky Little Monkeys kids centre set to close

The imminent closure of a CBD indoor play centre has left local families devastated with 'nothing for younger kids' in the region.

A creche and play area for the region’s smallest residents is closing down after years of fun.

Cheeky Little Monkeys Play Centre Mackay came to Mackay after the owners moved from the Sunshine Coast.

The centre offered a space for parents to drop off or bring their kids to play during the day and even hosted birthday parties.

On July 28, the owner’s announced on their Facebook that the centre would be closing on August 8.

“You have two more weeks to come and play in the space before our doors will be closed in this location permanently,” they said.

The owners thanked the public for their support and said “now it is time to spend some quality time with our own family”.

“We are all going to take a much-needed break, reset, have a massive clean and tidy of equipment and look at where to from here,” they said.

The post received 83 comments from customers sharing their devastation.

Zenny Godden said the centre had been such a highlight for her child.

“I hope people support you the next 2 weeks. Running a small business is so so hard, especially at the moment,” Ms Godden said.

“Unfortunately now, once again, Mackay has pretty much nothing for younger kids.”

Renee Vassallo said it was a wonderful space for Mackay parents and Patrice Denniss said “you guys had the best idea which was and will be again lacking in Mackay”.

“An indoor, full day and weekend play centre,” Ms Denniss said.

“Thank you for doing it.”

Anna Louise Parker said she didn’t take her children to the Wood St location, but previously went to their Canelands location.

“I know rent is probably huge but my vote is to come back to Canelands,” Ms Parker said.

The owners told customers to “keep following us along for what is to come next”.

The owners were contacted but declined to comment.
